DON’T PINCH ME, I AM DREAMING
Today, a good friend of mine pointed out his frustration with the religious “leaders” in Lebanon exerting influence on politics in this critical time. His comments hit deep in my psyche. Unbeknown to him, he took me back many years as far back as my teenage years.
He took me back to the time when I thought I could re-engineer the world so I can live in it. I remember, as if it is today, thinking that to save Lebanon we first need a Tien En Min square style revolution to wash out all the political corruption, foreign occupation and foreign influence in one sweep.
I imagine the power of the people marching through the streets of Beirut cleansing and purifying it in preparation of a new start.
I imagine the power of the people marching through all foreign military positions throwing them out once and for all.
I imagine the power of the people sweeping through all military intelligence centers ridding the world of their organized crime mentality.
I imagine the power of the people next uprooting the whole regime (AL-NIZAM) and flushing it into oblivion.
I imagine the power of the people saving the republic from the hands of the regime.
I imagine the power of the people excising the rotten political/sectarian/tribal mentality that our regime and every other Arab regime has used to subdue and oppress its people over hundreds of years.
I imagine the power of the people turning next to bring the religious power back to its original place, nursing spirits – and staying away from earthly affairs.
I imagine the power of the people ensuring their problems and concerns solved by civil elected officials and not by religious zealots.
I imagine the power of the people outlawing religion from schools, and preventing religious “leaders” from having any role in the educational system.
I imagine the power of the people developing a constitution built on the government of Humans (DAULAT AL INSAN).
I imagine the power of the people re-assembling the republic from scratch through an equal opinion for every citizen.
I imagine the power of the people next seizing control of the republic’s resources and redistributing wealth to reinstate a balanced, powerful and far-reaching middle class.
I imagine the power of the people planning the future in packages including industrial, agricultural and services development.
I imagine the power of the people to allow the individual to choose only from within these plans to have a directed private sector with a vision.
I imagine this private sector to shore our economy and prosperity to a place where there are no poor no disadvantaged, no disenfranchised and no outcast citizens.
I imagine, I dream of a socialist democracy, Swedish style.
